Son Gokuh
The main character, his name is based on the Chinese mythological character of the same name. Although he doesn't look like the Monkey King as described in the scripture, he looks human in almost every way. He used to have a tail, which, at the sight of a full moon, transforms him into a giant were-ape beast (ala King Kong, only meaner). He is of a race called Saiya-jins who goes around conquering planets and dealing them. He strives on challenging fights but has a heart of gold. In the beginning, he starts out as a naive boy but soon grows up to be a good man as he is around with civilizations more.
He always train and his training also always get him far in terms of strength, speed, and endurance. He is the first to achieve the Super Saiya-jin form, a form which changes a few properties of your original body and form.
Son Gohan
In the entire Dragon Ball universe, there are two Gohan's. The first that is mentioned in the manga is Gokuh's adoptive grandfather. This Gohan is the one who first found Gokuh and raised him for a while. The second one is Gokuh's son later in the manga series. This Gohan has the blood of his mother, Chichi, and has the abilities of his father, Gokuh, and a little more. He doesn't like fighting and despises those who hurts his friends, family, and nature. He has a similar kind heart that his father possesses. When he was born, he also has a tail, until it was taken off to be safe. He has trained with Piccolo after his father's death and idolizes him as his mentor. He has also trained with Klilyn for a while and with his father for a year.
Gohan's half-breed traits enables him to become more powerful than his father. His anger produces incredible power and speed when known how to use it. It was first seen when Gohan rammed into Raditz's armor to create a crack which helps Piccolo kill him. He is the first one to learn the form called Super Saiya-jin 2, the form beyond the default Super Saiya-jin form.
Son Goten
In the later part of the series (from volume 36 and onward), another son is born and his name is Goten. At a first glance, he looks very much like his father in his young age. He is very naive like Gokuh and very innocent. Though Gokuh first achieved the Super Saiya-jin form at an older age and Gohan at a young age of 10 ( or 11 ) years old, Goten achieves this form at a young age while practicing fighting techniques with Chichi. He is a close friend of Trunks, who is one year older than him.
Chichi
Gokuh's wife, she first appeared briefly in the beginning and reappeared in one of the tournament. She didn't forget the promise that Gokuh made that he'll marry her when they're older. When she reappears, she enters the tournament and confronts him, angry that Gokuh didn't recognize her. After the match and by the end of the day, they are husband and wife. She is sometimes considered as the most powerful person in the universe since she can overpower Gokuh at times.
She is very strict after Gohan is born, visualizing and wanting him to become a scholar when Gohan grows up. She is very pushy at times but soon realizes what she was doing and stopped pushing her children to study. She pushed Gohan hard on studying but when Goten is born, she didn't bother and thus Goten soon grows lazy.
Bulma
Also can be spelled as Bulma to some others but by doing this, you lose the pun which is in her name, which is "bloomer." She is the first whom Gokuh meet. She searches the 7 Dragon Balls so that she can wish for a boyfriend. She is later known to be the daughter of the founder of the Capsule Corporation, a well-known company that makes items which you can fit into capsules for easier transport. She soon becomes one of Gokuh's closer friends during his adventures.
Vejita
The Saiya-jin prince of the planet Vejita and rival of Gokuh, he first starts out as a "high-class" soldier working for Freeza. When he arrives on earth and fights Goku, he couldn't believe that he was defeated by Gokuh, whom he calls as Kakarotto and a "low-class" soldier. Later he teams up with Gokuh for a single reason, so he can fight against Gokuh and defeat ( or kill ) him on his own. Very icy and evil, he has killed many innocent lives before meeting up with Gokuh. He also despises Goku for always being just one step ahead in terms of training.
At first, he is very powerful. If Goku and Vegeta go at it one-on-one, Goku would have lost. However, later on in the story, Gokuh surpasses him and Vejita ensues on a constant training mission, always trying to surpass Gokuh.
Trunks
Trunks' first appearance is one year after the Freeza incident when Freeza comes back along with his father. He is a young teenager who says he is waiting for Goku. When Goku returns to Earth, the two chat for a bit. It is then known that Trunks is from the future where two cyborgs, #17 and #18, wreckes havoc across the world. Trunks explains to Gokuh that he is the son of Vejita and Bulma. He carries a sword and wears a tank top with a Capsule Corp. jacket.
The other Trunks is born after the future one visited. While the future Trunks knows the Super Saiya-jin form at his teens, this Trunks knows it at an earlier age. He's 8 years old, making him just a year older than Goten. His strength and speed surpasses even his own father. And he is just a bit stronger and faster than Goten. He is pretty mischievous and he always seem to get himself into some trouble.
Kami-sama
Kami-sama is known as God on Earth. He controls the Dragon Balls. He is also Piccolo's spiritual opposite, for when he takes the role of being Kami-sama, he has clensed himself of all evil within his own body, thus forming Piccolo-Daimaou. It is soon found out that both Piccolo and Kami-sama comes from a planet whose inhabitants have unique powers.
Piccolo
When Piccolo-Daimaou appears, he is the evil self of Kami-sama, or the evil side of Kami-sama. He wrecks havoc and is soon defeated by Gokuh. but before dying, he gives birth to his successor, the now and current Piccolo ( aka Ma Jr. ). He is sometimes called as the reborn devil but that is soon forgotten when he joins Gokuh's team of fighters. It is soon turns out that he is not all evil. Around the time when Goku was dead and he is given Gohan to train, he experiences paternal pride and affections for him. He likes worthy opponents and dislikes good music or sweet music. He is often to known meditating in solitude where there's nothing but quietness.
Kaioshin
The East Kaioshin and the last of his kind. He first appears to be a competitor in the Tournament that's held by Mr. Satan. He uses Gohan as bait so he can find Buu and Majin Babidi and destroy them. However, his plan somewhat backfires and he is almost killed. However, he soon recruits Gohan and trains him to become more stronger than he is.
Kaiou-sama
He can be sometimes dubbed as the "World King." He trains Gokuh after his death with Raditz, who is Gokuh's brother. He lives on a tiny planet at the end of the Snake Road in the heavens. He has vast knowledge of powers, people, and places and often thinks about the situations happening on Earth. He can communicate telepathically to Gokuh or to everyone if needed be.
Kamesennin
Sometimes dubbed as the "Turtle Master," he meets Goku and trains him and Klilyn for all he knows. He is the first to develop the Kamehame Ha, a powerful blast, which took him 50 years to learn it. However, Goku learned it just by watching it. He wears a turtle shell on his back and wears funky clothings. He is known to be very perverted.
Klilyn
Short, bald, has 6 dots on his forehead instead of a nose, he trains with Gokuh under Kamesennin and becomes Gokuh's closest friend. He is a good fighter during his young age. But as the story progresses, the training gap between the two stretches to a point where he would stay out of any fights that involves extremely powerful beings.
Sempyou
A short and fat cat holding a staff that lives at the top of Karin Tower. He is a master among masters. He is also more powerful than Kamesennin.
Yamcha
The only human fighter among Gokuh's team of fighters. He first starts out as an enemy of Gokuh. However, he has his heart set on Bulma but it only has gotten as far as just being friends. His martial art style is the way of the wolf, thus some of his wolf techniques. He is probably the weakest fighter among all of the fighters.
Puuaru
Yamcha's loyal sidekick, he is a floating cat with the ability to change shape.
Oolong
A pig who, like Puuaru, is a shape-shifter. He used to be a lawless prankster until Bulma reformed him. He has a similar perverted mind like Kamesennin but not as perverted as him. At least he has some control.
Lunch
No, it's not a joke. Lunch is a young woman with a split personality. Half of her is a sweet and innocent while the other half is a psychopathic maniac. Whenever she sneezes, she'll turn to her psycho side. Another sneeze will change her back. Also, whenever switching to her crazy side, a gun or a weapon always seem to materialize out of thin air when she takes one out. She was rescued by Gokuh, who was not aware of the double persona at that time. She appeared once in the series and was never seen again.
Yajirobe
During the time when Piccolo-Daimaou's terror reigns over the Earth, he encounters and aids the weakened Gokuh. Though he is a bit of a coward, he often chooses to stay out of anything risky. Still, he has his moments of heroism. He lives with Sempyou on Karin Tower and has a large appetite that rivals Gokuh's. He is the only fighter that cannot fly.
Tenshinhan
The three-eyed fighter (Tri-cyclops) and a student of Kamesennin's rival, Tsurusennin (the Crane Master). He is fast, powerful, and nasty, the only fighter with the knowledge of the deadly 'Shi Ko Ho', a powerful blast that requires a lot of concentration but deadly if done too many times.
Chaozo
Tenshinhan's best friend and training companion, he is a short (He is a white-dwarf) and quirky character with telekinetic powers. He is many times heroic, but not too bright.
Mr. Popo
God's reliable adjutant, his origins is unknown and is powerful in his own right. |
